Proudly South African bags that Make a Difference

Each bag in the Uzwelo range has been designed, tested and produced with 2 main goals:

  1. To create a uniquely, proudly South African bag with innovative functionality and exciting, stylish looks
  2. Make a meaningful difference in South Africa by reducing our environmental impact and contributing to local skills development and job creation

It all started by realising that we can only make a real difference when we focus on what we can do, instead of what we can’t….

We partnered with everyday local heroes to create a range of unique, stylish and functional bags made from our fabric cut-offs, and decided to use some of the profits to support the Bateleurs, an NPO that provides SA with an aerial perspective of the environment. They are involved in multiple diverse missions of sustainable environmental and development policies and programs, and UZWELO is proud to be associated with all that they do through donating a portion of the proceed from sales to their cause.

Uzwelo is now armed for change with a range of unique and truly South African bags (literally, each one is different) that are fashionable, durable and cater for every aspect of South African life from fashion to shopping, travel to work, sport and school.

How we’re changing South Africa

Environment

Expand a Sign decided to use their waste fabric off-cuts to create unique, functional and stylish products that would minimise the impact we were having on the environment, and use our creativity to look after our planet…

Skills Development

Each one of our products is hand-made by local women in Kwa-Zulu Natal who have gone through skills development programs that empower them to earn a living, put food on the table, fund education and provide dignity and upliftment for their communities long-term.

Conservation

The Bateleurs is an NPO organisation of volunteer pilots who fly their aeroplanes behind the scenes, providing an aerial view of the South African environment for various conservation and development needs. Uzwelo is proud to donate a portion of it’s proceeds from sales to this amazing organisation and their cause.
